The Isala people of Southeast Asia are referred to as “slaves” by the lingual majority of their country. The ruling class has pushed them away, forcibly removing them from their back-country homes and resettling them close to main highways where those who scorn them can exert control over them.
A team of three young families, whose hearts God has burdened for the Isala, completed Team Launch in the fall of 2023. Two of these, from Mennonite churches in Pennsylvania, have completed their training requirements and are moving to Asia. The third team member, from an Amish Mennonite church in Virginia, continues training for another couple years before joining the others
In the beginning years, this team will be setting up a business in the country, learning language and culture, and building relationships. Their hope and prayer is that God will open the way for the team to live among the Isala people as they move forward in discipleship, community development, and Bible translation.
“Isala” is a code name for this people group and is pronounced EE-sah-lah.
