The Tarahumara Project in Northern Mexico

After many years of working for the Gospel in the Copper Canyon region of northern Mexico, an Anabaptist family is thanking God for answering their prayers for a Bible translation team. In several Tarahumara-speaking villages with a unique dialect, church planting has met various hindrances, not least of which is the need for a faithful translation of the Old and New Testaments in their own speech.

Team members include a young family and two single ladies. One of the ladies has lived with the Tarahumara for many years; it is her family that has been laboring there. She is supported by her family’s church near Chihuahua and another church in Pennsylvania. The other team mates are from Pennsylvania, sent and supported by their church group through an organized support committee.

This team includes a literacy worker as well as two Bible translators. An additional family from Pennsylvania is working on Spanish study, preparing to join the team and focus on community development.

Pray for God’s sustaining grace as this team lives in a Tarahumara village, working hard to learn the language and culture, preparing to work in literacy and translation.

“Tarahumara” is pronounced TAH-dah–oo-MAH-dah.
