After spending a few months in France studying the French language used broadly in western Africa, a family from Pennsylvania left for western Africa in December 2018. They were sent by their church to a historically nomadic people group in the Sahel region. There they are working with local translators to continue a Bible translation already begun under the direction of an organization called SIM.
They spent 2019 settling in, learning the way of life in the village where they spent time learning the language. 2020 brought many changes, as the lady who had led the translation under SIM needed to leave, and our member stepped into the role sooner than expected. A project for 2021 involved settling into town where the translation office is. The translation is now making good progress toward completion.
We hope to recruit an additional family to serve in community development role and help produce literacy materials and evangelism and discipleship resources.
“Madara” is a code name for this people group and is pronounced MAH-dah-rah.
