The Bible Translation Conference is a place where people involved in Bible translation in a variety of different roles come together to share ideas and learn from each other. The conference is growing from year to year and over 500 people were present this year. It’s an intense time with 136 papers being presented over a period of three days, but we still found time between sessions to connect with people around us, visit an organization’s exhibit, or decide on our next session. Breakout sessions were grouped under six different topics:
- Media and Performance in Translation and Scripture Engagement
- Bible Translation and Theology
- Theory and Practice of Bible Translation
- Training, Mentoring, Consultant Checking, and Consultant Management
- Scripture Engagement
- Bible Translation and Innovations in Technology
We found the conference to be very helpful for identifying common challenges in translation, becoming aware of the translation norms of larger organizations, meeting people in the broader translation community, and observing the results of the translation theories of that community.
