Our family recently had the privilege of watching a documentary with the above title—the story of a young family with three small children that simply packed up and left everything when hearing the call to labor among the unreached!
Three things that stood out to me while watching the film were as follows:
1) Their absolute willingness to obey the call without hesitation! Dad simply handed in his two week notice to his boss when hearing about the need and started preparing to go.
2) Faith to live day-by-day trusting the Lord’s provision and protection. This family lived in a tent for the first nine months after arriving on the field and ate whatever game Dad could shoot as their “manna” for that day. Relatives had warned that this father should not take the children or even his wife until contact had been successfully established. After much prayer the family decided to all go together. They only learned later that the jungle tribe they moved to decided not to kill Dad because “we discussed and concluded we should give him more time and figure out why he had come because if this white man would be planning to take our wives and children he surely would not have brought his own too.”
3) How the message of the gospel affected the tribal groups! The two main tribes in the area, previously enemies, actually became friends and started to work together. Then these two tribes decided they needed to try to make contact with a third more remote tribe. After successfully contacting them, they worked together to move this more remote tribe, that had been headed toward extinction, down to their own more prosperous territory in order to help them survive and to share God’s love with them.
One of the final stories in the film tells how the above more remote tribe, when asked if there were any more people left out there in the jungle, said they think there may be one more family left back up in that territory. They said that the last they saw of them, the father of this family had been sick, but possibly the mother with two young children would still be alive. So they set out to find them if at all possible. The remarkable story of how a “man in white” appeared to this young mother and her two children to tell them help was coming soon and that they shouldn’t be afraid is very touching. God loves these tribal people so much and He sent His Son to die for them too!
Feel free to watch the whole documentary here.
